Being a business that prioritises ESG, it is important for Transport Capital to stay informed on sustainability best practices. Our Green Committee members attended a 4-day workshop on ‘Putting Sustainability into Practice for Business’ that was organised by Singapore Environment Council. Here are some key learnings that we’d like to share.  `

Your Office Internet Habits Might Cause More Damage Than You Think
Most of us may now be more conscious of hitting “print”, are you taking another second to hit “send” on that email? While a single internet search or email might have a small carbon footprint (anywhere from 0.03g CO2e  to 26g CO2e)the longer you spend composing, reading, or replying to a message means the more electricity you’re using. Even a short email that’s written and read efficiently produces 0.3g CO2e – which is 10 times the amount of a spam message. Imagine the cumulative carbon footprint of the world population that’s using the internet or sending one liner emails!

Greater Transparency to tackling Supply Chain issues and mitigating Risk
The 4-step approach to building supply chain transparency includes to: Assess, Visualise, Info, Engage.

Assess
First, organisations would need to determine material and issues. After which, businesses would need to assess and identify stakeholder interests.

Visualise
From there, draw out how your supply chain looks like and identify information gaps. Ask questions such as: do you know where your suppliers are getting their materials?

Info
From the visual map, obtain actionable information and identify practices that require verification.

Engage
At the very end, put all of these to work by engaging stakeholders with actionable information. Address specific issues and set targets for these concerns.

Launching a Sustainable Project? Get Government Support
In Singapore, Enterprise Singapore will offer support to local enterprises to embark on sustainability capability and innovative projects through the Enterprise Development Grant (EDG). Some of the sustainability projects to receive this grant would include:

  • Sustainability Strategy
  • Resource Optimisation
  • Sustainability Standards Adoption
